Year 6 Cricket Tournament
Friday 15th November
Chessington School
St Agatha's cricket team travelled to Chessington school to compete in what would be the first Kingston Borough event since March 2020. After learning cricket as one of their PE units in year 5 as well an after-school training session the children were ready to compete!
The tournament consisted of 6 schools. St Agatha's were placed in group B alongside Latchmere and Coombe Hill juniors.
Each team started each match with 200 runs and additional points would be added for scoring runs or taken away if a player was out.
Please note: A wicket is how many players on your team were out. 5 runs deducted for each wicket.
Results
Game 1:
St Agatha's 250 runs for 2 wickets
Latchmere 252 runs for 4 wickets
Despite losing fewer wickets St Agatha's fell agonizingly short of Latchmere's total by 2 runs - which in cricket is barely anything! St Agatha's batted extremely well.
Game 2:
St Agatha's 226 runs for 2 wickets
Coombe Hill 219 runs for 6 wickets
Another very close game, which St Agatha's won due to taking 6 wickets, some fantastic bowling and fielding in this game!
St Agatha's came 2nd in their group and went into a playoff against Christ Church New Malden.
Game 3: Playoff
St Agatha's 216 runs for 3 wickets
Christ Church 225 runs for 3 wickets
A tough game in which Christ Church's fantastic speed bowlers made it hard for St Agatha's to score runs.
Despite losing this game St Agatha's were awarded a draw due to Christ Church fielding an incorrect number of players in the boys to girl's ratio.
Latchmere school went on to win the tournament, with St Agatha's only losing to Latchmere by 2 runs, the children should be very proud of their efforts!
