Y5/6 Girls' Basketball Tournament

Absolutely awesome display of girl power from the year 5 and 6  girls who travelled to TKA to take place in the borough’s first Girls’ Basketball Competition, Friday 24th January.

Year 5 drew what seemed to be the tougher group.  They played with real commitment against 4 very strong year 6 teams. This was a great experience for them and they improved with every match.  Helena and Aurelia excellent in attack, defence, under the nets and movement on the court.  Ruby and Kate stole the ball brilliantly and ran and ran. They didn’t manage a win in the group stage but did convincingly win the friendly 4th place play off. Well done girls.

Year 6 girls smashed through their heats facing no real opposition, finishing top of the group and straight to the final. They amazingly conceded no points during the round stages, winning 26:0, 33:0 and 18:0.
The final was a different story. Latchmere got off to a flying start 6:0 before St Agatha’s had even got into the game. However, as the girls stepped up to the higher level play they began to claw back points. Last ball shot, which would have equalised the score coming just after the whistle. Final score 9:11 to Latchmere.

Girls - you should be very very proud of your silver medals. Player of the Tournament was Holly, some superb shots from Liliana and Summer, Elana was solid throughout, in fact you were all superb - Mrs Tracey and I were so so proud of you all.
