Chess Club News from Mr Hogarth
(Chess Teacher, Wey Valley Surrey County U11 Junior Chess Selector and Captain, ECF Chess Arbiter)
The Spring Term has ended on a real high as a record number of pupils qualified for the MegaFinals to be held on 30th April/1st May 2022 depending upon age, where they will compete against other juniors who has qualified from their schools.

This is a monumental achievement and hearty congratulations to the following for qualifying: Zachary (Y1); Evelyn (Y2); Halin Y, Rory K, Leonardo, Jacob Y (Y3); James, Pedro (Y4); Emelia, Daniel, Joseph, Amelia, Petroc, Liam, Torin, Rosalie, Melissa, Joshua (Y5); Nicholas, Sean K, Harry, Brian, Brayden, Jihun Y, Alexander (Y6).
Most outstanding amongst the above Qualifiers were Zachary from Year 1!! and Evelyn from Year 2! Commiserations for those who narrowly missed qualification. They will get another opportunity next year.

On a different note Brian (Y6) won a Bronze medal as he helped Surrey Wey Valley Juniors take third place in the Southern Counties U11 Zonal Final, winning all three of his games against top class County opposition. He's been selected for the Grand Counties Final in May as well as helping J4NCL Hilsmark Juniors to a top three placing in Division 4 of J4NCL with two rounds to go.
Well done Brian who is a fantastic ambassador for the school on and off the chessboard.

We look forward to seeing everyone back for the Summer Term when we will be preparing the children for the ECF Certificate of Excellence tests with awards at Bronze/Silver/Gold level depending upon chess ability and knowledge. Hope everyone enjoys Easter and keep practising!
