At St Agatha’s we consider Music a universal form of communication, one through which children of all ages can be encouraged to express their ideas and feelings in a practical as well as theoretical and analytical way.
All classes from Nursery to Year 6 have a weekly lesson with our specialist music teacher Mrs Rodgers. Singing is at the heart of our music making and thanks to sponsorship from John Lewis, we are currently in the second year of The Voices Foundation Programme (www.voices.org.uk) which supports the development of singing in the primary school. The funding facilitates INSET for all class teachers to develop their music skills.
We enjoy opportunities to sing together in class, assembly and church. Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 also have weekly ‘singing together’. Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 are invited to join the popular school choir which meets weekly and performs regularly in school, church and the wider community.
All children in Year 3 learn recorder as part of The Wider Opportunities scheme. In addition, instrumental lessons are available for a fee, provided by tutors from Kingston Music Service. Further information about instrumental lessons is available from the school office or Kingston Music Service - Please see below, email - email@example.com
On Friday 7th February eight members of the school choir were treated to a wonderful display of singing and dancing by WATOTO African Children's Choir at St Richard's CE School, Ham.
