At St Agatha's we have a vision of languages as "a life long skill to be used in business and for pleasure, to open up avenues of communication and exploration and to promote, encourage and instill a broader cultural understanding".
Spanish is the foreign language taught at St. Agatha's. The children start learning Spanish in Year 2, where they have a half hour Spanish lesson a week. Years 3 to Year 6 have a weekly 45 minute Spanish lesson, taught by our Spanish speaking teacher , Ms Humanes. We focus on Oracy (listening, speaking and spoken interaction), Literacy and Intercultural understanding, also looking at Knowledge about Language and Language Learning Strategies.
At lunchtimes, we also provide the children in Year 1 to Year 6 the opportunity to attend a Spanish club which is run by Rosa Flitcroft, a native Spanish speaker.
Every year we hold a Languages Day in September to promote language learning and to help the children develop an international outlook.
