Anti-Racist Pledge
At St Agatha’s Catholic Primary school, we are committed to embedding this Anti-racist pledge. We use it to guide our approaches to justice, equity and inclusion. Our racial justice strategy is for ALL pupils to learn about racism on their journey to becoming global citizens. We acknowledge and respect the heritage of all our learners. We would aim that no pupil is marginalised and no pupil’s heritage is ignored.
We ensure this pledge is personalised and relevant to our school’s cultural demographic.
Some examples of how we are working on this pledge are listed below:
- A curriculum which reflects our culturally diverse school community, where children see themselves represented in their learning and children and families to feel a sense of belonging.
- Our school website has a translate function. Through our school website, parents can access information about the English school system and how to support multilingual learners, translated into 22 languages.
- Designated lead for Racial Justice and Multilingualism appointed.
- Ongoing CPD and training opportunities for all staff on areas including racial literacy; recognising, reporting and dealing with racist incidents; supporting multilingual children and families.
- Racial justice strategy included in the school development plan and monitored by our school improvement partner and senior leadership team.
- We have a secure system of reporting racist incidents, in the same way as we approach safeguarding.
- Progress of multilingual learners and cultural groups is monitored by the designated lead. This information enables us to identify gaps and then implement actions to support individual children. This information is shared with Governors.
- Intersectionalities with Multilingualism, Pupil Premium Grant and Special Educational Needs are identified and considered when supporting individual children and monitoring progress.
- Interpreters are invited to attend parent consultation and SEN meetings when required.
- Interpreters invited to support in parent workshops designed for specific spoken language groups.
- Strong links establised with local schools to support designated lead and share good practice.
- Partnership working, for example, with the Chelsea Foundation; Kingston Beats; St. Mary’s Ukrainian school; the Kingston Mental Health Support team to support both pupils and families.
- Yearly International day- exploring languages and culture in our diverse school community.
