At St. Agatha’s we have a broad ranging and inclusive curriculum that excites our children and encourages them to develop a love of learning within a framework that encourages them to become resilient and to take risks. Our curriculum is split into four or five themes which allow children to make connections across almost all subjects or areas of learning as they are linked to a particular theme.

We follow a Religious Education programme called ‘The Way, The Truth and The Life’ and prayer is an everyday part of our school life. Importantly we encourage our children to see that our Christian faith has practical applications in our daily lives in the way that we interact together. We lead the children to understand their religion, enabling them to talk and reason with others and grow in their relationship with God. With our families we want our children to develop a good set of moral values based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage [Nursery and Reception] we place a strong emphasis on learning through structured play, helping children to become more independent as learners and becoming accustomed to school routines and practices. The EYFS curriculum is based on the EYFS principles and early learning goals:

The principles:

  • a unique child
  • positive relationships
  • enabling environments
  • learning and development

The six areas covered by the early learning goals:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

In Key Stage 1 [Y1 and Y2] and Key Stage 2 [Y3 to Y6], as well as Religious Education, the curriculum includes Mathematics, English, Science, Information and Communication Technology [ICT], Physical Education [PE], History, Geography, Design and Technology [D&T], Art and Design, Music and Spanish [Y2 to Y6]. Music and Spanish are taught by specialist teachers.
