Key Stage 2 (Yr 3 to Yr 6)

Welcome to Key Stage Two

In KS2 our aim is to provide a safe, happy and caring environment in which individuals have the opportunity to develop their spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional, aesthetic, social, cultural and physical potential. We work collaboratively to establish an environment and ethos in which each pupil develops self-awareness and self-discipline in order to accept social responsibility within the school and within society at large. Children are active participants in the learning process and their opinions and ideas are shared through class circle times and the school council. Our religious ethos is to be found across the whole of the KS2 curriculum and not just within religious education lessons.

Throughout KS2 the children experience a broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum, including the requirements of the National Curriculum, to develop each child's potential. Children learn through a range of themes designed to both engage and inspire them.  These are planned and adapted in accordance with the needs, interests and experiences of children within each year group while aiming to promote the highest possible standards of achievement for each individual child.

Staff plan sessions where children are given opportunities to learn in a variety of contexts sometimes independently, collaboratively in pairs or groups and as a whole class.  First hand experiences are encouraged with trips out and guests invited in which are used to support a range of learning.  We encourage children to take an active part in their learning by giving them time to reflect on their experiences, understanding and effort, inviting them to think about their achievements and next steps in learning.

Staff within KS2 strive to encourage and nurture independence in children which forms a strong basis for them to become life-long learners. As children move into upper KS2 we aim to develop our pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. We welcome and rely on support from families as we work together within the KS2 community in ensuring the children are happy and confident learners.
